Communication:

I want to bring a new level of transparency
to city government; it is my belief that people need to be more
involved with the place in which they live. At present, there is an air
of mystery that surrounds our Council. In fact, at a recent campaign
meeting, not a single one of the ten people in attendance could name
all four members! However, their lack of knowledge was no
fault of their own, rather it was due to the horrendously low levels of accessibility our Council offers. Regardless of your age ladies and
gentlemen, I promise to listen, no: I WILL LISTEN. I am the one candidate in this
election who can claim to be young enough, pure enough, to be untainted
by special interests. You will know what I do, and more importantly: why I'm
doing it. The days of a Council shrouded in mystery, days of nameless
faces making decisions for reasons unbeknownst to you, those days are over. I too have been subjected to my voice not being heard and I am tired of it.
In the short time since making my announcement, I have already begun to correspond with the constituency of Fremont. Anybody with any queries has been able to contact my campaign and has received a rapid, almost immediate, response. Our facebook group has accrued over 200 members and the pages of our website have received a grand combined total of over 1000 hits. These new methods offer me a way to spread my message by speaking directly to you. My critics and opponents however, continue to sit back and send me hate mail rather than actually addressing the issues that we, as a city, face today. Is that really the type of persona you want to see in a city official? No it isn't. I want you to know that I am here to serve you, the citizens of Fremont. I refuse to waste my time bickering with the politicians who will invariably oppose me. The reason being, seasoned politicians are so far gone into the games of politics that they have forgotten what it is like to be a normal person with pressing concerns.
I'm sure you have noticed that I'm not the spitting image of a statesman that people are so used to. I don't have a fancy title or a degree just yet. Surprisingly, this fact is what makes me qualified to lead. Who can better communicate with the people of Fremont than myself? I go to the places you do, dine in the same restaurants as you do, and watch the same movies you do. Ladies and gentlemen, the point I'm trying to get across is this: I'm just like you regardless of age; that fact alone means that communication with me should be easier than with people who wave around degrees and meaningless titles that make them feel special. Politicians need to learn to be more humble. Please, talk to me, I'm here to listen.
